GUYS AND GALS Crops or Nah?
Imagine this, you and you're family are walking into the mall or a movie theater or whatever normal families do for fun. You see a girl walk out in some blue jeans and a cute red crop top. Your family walks past without a blink of an eye. Soon after a guy wearing black jeans and a blue crop top walks out as well. Your family stops. Gasp. Tells you to never wear something like that because it's not manly enough.
Now you as a child understands that you are supposed to listen to the adult in this situation. What you nor your family knew was that that guy has six years of boxing under his belt, runs 5k's for fun and has an auto shop just down the road that he opened. What would you do if you understood the definition of manly and knew his history?...
Nash's Perspective: So let's start off small with this one. I'm judged every day I wear a crop top. It usually starts off with, "Crop Tops are meant for women, not men." and then it escalates to "Well even if you are gay there's no point in you wearing one. They aren't meant for men!". As you all can see in the opening. This is the usual idea that is portrayed around the united states. I understand that women are more likely to wear this article of clothing. Nothing wrong with that. If you think you pull it off, wear it, love it and freaking embrace it. So the thing that confuses me is why can't I wear one? Does it make me feminine to wear something that is legit just a piece of fabric that is half the length of a normal t-shirt? I don't think so? If we're completely transparent here. I feel my most confident when I'm wearing one. It's not derogatory in any way shape or form that I know of. It doesn't cause physical, emotional or spiritual damage. Yet I am still bullied and told that I should Kill My Self because I feel confident in something that "Masculine Men" wouldn't wear.
So here's the truth. Its a piece of fabric, that's used to cover my upper half. Granted it only covers half, but there's nothing wrong with that. I like them. I like the variations. I like the colors, and I love the message it gives off. Confidence is usually a compelling attribute for a personality that will change the world. I don't have it often, but when I do, I really do feel like I can make a change. The best part is that most people judge me for that fact that I dare to walk out in public with one on. Ladies and Gentlemen. I really don't care. I'm not wearing it for you. I wear it for me.
If you haven't noticed lately. Our generation takes what you throw at us and pretty much transform it into motivation. I don't understand why we can't just bring each other up? Like when I see men or women wearing something that is out of the "norm" of their gender, I'm like "SHOW IT OFF. PROVE SOCIETIES IDEA OF GENDER SPECIFIED CLOTHING IS BS". I don't bring them down, and I don't hate our society I think either. What I do believe is that our society is stuck in a time which isn't here anymore. Guys it is 2019. We have leaders who are women. We have empowered women next to empowered men. We have people taking charge and making a stand that back in previous generations, it would be thought as ludicrously for something of this sort to take place. I don't comprehend why it's so bad for me to wear something like this?
I don't see a problem here? I might look feminine, and I might look masculine. I like that. I love that because of a piece of clothing I wear I can portray both sides of myself. I like having aspects of both genders in my personalit.y. I like that I can represent it through my clothes. I wear pink crop tops, tight pants, basketball shorts, tank tops, sweatpants and more. So here's the real deal here. You can hate me for wearing what I want, you can be my support in what I wear, or you can be neutral. Only one of those options have a negative effect. So why don't we as gay men, feminine men, masculine men and EVERYONE IN BETWEEN just stop worrying about what you or I wear and just wear what WE want? It's that simple. Get up, go shopping and don't think about the restrictions that could hold you back. Think about the little kid you might inspire with how confident you are or how you might make someone feel bold enough to do what they want. Do it for you and watch. Just watch. The outcome will be better than you expect. This is only one out of two opinions. The Gay Guy here is done ranting. Guess it's my sis's turn.💁♂️
Alyssa's Perspective:
Okay, so as a woman I haven't had quite the same experience. I honestly don't know where to start with this topic because if I wear a crop top its almost the same as wearing a regular tee-shirt. The only negative reaction I get is when people are like "oh my gosh shes showing skin shes such a hoe" and women get that with literally anything they wear. Like okay just because I show my belly button doesn't mean I'm sleeping around and If I did it wouldn't be anyone's business except for mine. Crop tops are made for two things: when its real toasty out and to support your self-confidence. Personally, I love crop tops, they're super cute, and it shows that people are confident with their bodies.
Now its time for me to rant. It's 2019 we need to stop genderizing clothes, we need to stop attacking people for what they wear, and we need to stop demeaning men because they don't "look the part." If I can wear a crop top so can a man. Here's the tea: men can show their nipples literally anywhere in America and women cant in most places so why can a woman wear a crop top and a man cant? It's literally just the belly button showing, Have people never seen one before because it's bogus that there is so much negative stigma around a piece of fabric.
I am all about body positivity whether its a man or a woman, show off what ya mama gave ya. I can't believe the negativity around showing off body parts. Did everyone just forget that in ancient Greece they would do the entirety of the Olympics completely nude? And now we can't even wear a short shirt without being called out. I just thought of another situation where females are downgraded in crop tops and its when they get fat-shamed. This is something that happens to women everyday because apparently society gets to decide what beauty looks like. In reality, everyone is different and has their own kind of beauty, and as a society, we need to finally recognize that. I'm sure men get fat-shamed too, I'm not excluding them, I just have no experience with that because I'm a woman.
Overall I think the issue lies within societies "standards" which really sucks and it needs to change. Crop tops and any type of clothing are for any gender to be real. And I support all types of body positivity so WEAR WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT SIS I SUPPORT YOU.
Consensus:
So here's the REAL TEA. Ladies and Gentlemen. If you don't understand by now. The amount of negativity in this world to too damn high. So let's change it. Compliment someone when they are showing confidence or like WHENEVER YOU WANT. Understand that genderizing clothes is really wrong, why should we care what you wear? Look as long as I don't see you fully nude. I don't care. You do you. It's 2019 so let's just live it up. Be ourselves and for the love of everything good in this world. LET PEOPLE WEAR WHAT THEY WANT. You know why? Because sometimes IT JUST BE LIKE THAT.
P.S. Yo sis I want that crop. Can I steal it? Thanksssss
